Let me tell you a little about myself and what I can do for you.

Firstly, I love being a lawyer. I enjoy helping my clients and watching them learn and succeed as I assist them negotiate the legal mine fields, whether they are subdividing a property, dealing with their business, setting up a Trust, preparing for retirement, dealing with the loss of a loved one, or writing a Will.

Having spent over 25 years in legal offices from Christchurch to Rangiora, via New South Wales, Invercargill and Dunedin, I have obtained a good idea of what clients need.

My legal experience is from the ground up and incudes associate partner, one of the founding directors of one of the first all-woman law practices in Rangiora, and now sole director of Katherine Wilmott Legal Ltd.

As well, I also:

  • Am a member of the NZ Law Society;
  • Am a member of the Canterbury Women’s Legal Association;
  • Am currently serving on the Commercial and Property Law Committee for the Canterbury/Westland Branch of the Law Society;
  • Am currently serving on the NZ Law Society National Panel of Friends;
  • Served on the Executive of the Property Law Section of the NZ Law Society for three years;
  • Am part of the Anti-Money Laundering/Countering Financing of Terrorism Advisory Group;
  • Attended the Asia Pacific Coroners Conference in November 2019;
  • Served on the Ashley School Board of Trustees for three years;
  • Give talks on Property Law/Elder Law including for the Law Society;
  • Write papers and articles about legal issues facing people generally, including Katherine’s Blog.

I enjoy helping people with their legal work and I want to do this as professionally, time saving, and as economically as possible.

Kim graduated from the University of Canterbury with her Arts Degree in 2007 and her Law Degree in 2008. Kim began practicing law at the Crown Solicitor’s Office in Timaru in 2008 before returning to North Canterbury in 2012 to work for a Kaiapoi/Christchurch Law Firm.

Kim has been very busy since she joined our Law Practice in August 2017 and her main areas of practice are conveyancing, business/company transactions, trusts, estates, wills, family law and debt recovery.  Many of her clients are first home buyers and Kim assists them with their KiwiSaver and Housing NZ.

Kim is an experienced senior solicitor who takes a careful and thorough approach to all legal matters and was promoted to Associate Solicitor in August 2018.

Kim enjoys assisting her clients with their legal issues and works hard to ensure that she achieves the best outcomes for her clients.

Outside of law Kim is heavily involved with cricket umpiring commitments, including being a New Zealand Cricket Reserve Panel umpire.

Casey graduated from the University of Canterbury in 2013 and was admitted to the bar in 2015.

After beginning her legal career in general law, Casey specialized in her particular area of interest, family law, in 2017. After working in Canterbury-based law firms for several years, Casey joined Katherine Wilmott Legal in June 2021 as our specialist family lawyer.

Casey enjoys practicing family law as it is a more personal aspect of the profession that requires both understanding and compassion, alongside the ability to think practically in order to achieve the best result for each client.

Casey can provide advice and assist with the following matters:

  • Separation and Relationship Property;
  • Dissolution (“Divorce”) applications;
  • Contracting Out Agreements;
  • Care of Children matters;
  • Relationship Property Conveyancing – transfer of shares in a property to a spouse or ex-spouse;
  • Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act (“PPPR”) applications and/or ongoing preparation of annual statements to be filed by the Property Manager; and
  • General Law – Wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney.

Casey was born and raised here in Canterbury. Outside of work, Casey enjoys spending time with her family and animals, reading, writing and being involved with her charity work.

Casey is the Founder and Managing Trustee of a registered New Zealand charity, the New Zealand Chihuahua Rescue Trust. In 2017, Casey formed “Chihuahua Rescue” which began as a charitable trust to assist with the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of Chihuahuas, Chihuahua-crosses and small or toy breed dogs throughout New Zealand.

Casey often brings one of her own toy breed dogs into the office, usually Pepper the tri-color smooth coat Chihuahua you may meet at our offices!

Casey is available on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, between 9am – 5pm, or by appointment. Casey is out of the office each Wednesday.

Vivienne Holmes

Vivienne Holmes

Viv joined our team in October 2018 as a registered legal executive.  She has extensive experience in property law including guiding clients through the sale and purchase of property and overseeing KiwiSaver and Homestart Grants.  Viv also looks after the estates, and assists with Wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney.

Viv lives locally and brings considerable experience from law firms in Canterbury.

Viv works Tuesday to Friday.

Shona Morrison

Shona Morrison

Legal Assistant

Shona joined KW Legal in October 2018 and has extensive experience in law offices throughout Canterbury.  Shona is in charge of reception and the phones.  She enjoys assisting all clients with their queries and pointing them in the right direction, especially new purchasers with their KiwiSaver, Homestart, and identification requirements.  Shona also drafts Wills for clients.

Evie has been a part of KW Legal since she was employed as the office junior in 2016.  Evie looks after the files, deeds, and assists Shona at reception.
